Welcome to the Dunfermline & District Bowling Association... We hope you will find this web-site useful, it will be updated on a regular basis to reflect updated league results and competition fixtures. The Dunfermline & District Association was formed in 1936 and in 1986 its name was changed to West Fife Bowling Association mainly because many of the Bowling Clubs were outside what was regarded as the old district boundary of Dunfermline. As a result of the change, Clubs outside the old boundary were constituted within the West Fife Bowling Association and eligible to compete in the Association's League and Championships. Clubs within the West Fife Bowling Association qualify to be constituted within the Scottish bowling Association that is the parent body for controlling and regulating the outdoor bowling activities within Scotland. The Scottish bowling championships are open to all member clubs and the Scottish Year Book lays down the regulations for these competitions. The Scottish Bowling Association comprises thirty-two districts each district responsible that the Championships are played off within the stipulated time in accordance with the regulations. The final stages of the Championships are held, currently, Northfield, Ayr where the winners of the thirty-two districts meet to compete for the respective national championships. In
1992 the West Fife Bowling Association applied to be accepted as an independent
Association to qualify for the Cities and Counties Championships. The
application was accepted and allowed West Fife Bowling Association eligible
to compete, as a standalone Association for the coveted A H Hamilton trophy
where six fours compete against other counties in a league section with
the winners of each of four sections compete in semi-finals to decide
the Finalists. |
